Chapter 19

In chapter 19, we see how Dill reacts to Tom Robinson’s treatment during the trial. Dill is still a young boy so he is pure. During the trial Dill realises the injustices of racism and understand the harsh truth about racism, but strongly feels sick and disgusted the way whites treat the whites such as like calling Tom “boy”.  We see how differently scout handles this situation. Scout still does not understand how unfair this is and thinks it’s just how the world works. While we see Jem and now Dill understanding how unfair the whites are.

001- chapter 11

“It’s when you know you’re licked before you begin but you begin anyway.” – Atticus

This shows courage.  eg.  Defending Tom Robinson.

Atticus knows by defending Tom (black man) even if  Tom was completely innocent, Atticus knew he wouldn’t win but he defended Tom anyway because he wanted to at least try and show the kind of courage he has.
